I'm making small mixed media books, each with a dominate color scheme, this is orange. Acrylic paint, crayons, pencils, painted papers, tape, found scraps, etc. all the good stuff. My intention is that when I finish the primary and secondary color books, I will put them all together in one large book.<br />
<br />

For the black and white leaf shapes I painted the black lines on with pine needles & acrylic paint.<br />

I purchased a bag of tags at a second hand store, I think they are retail tags or something, I like the text on them. I like to make different kinds of color wheels or use the color wheel as a design element. This one is pocket color wheel. <br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEj6kHw6KSWrXV8lJv2XG5B4AkI3qIaiBqIBV1BQwzdevVxAmFgx2RFo47XWfo-35_IeIGRZU3CXd591R1Jo1fQ8NLxTaF3XKYuZ7DQLoQeCqEnoxv7PwFeILO5rb8EKvvZnUAYbPcLP-64O/s1600/DSC04012_edited-1.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEj6kHw6KSWrXV8lJv2XG5B4AkI3qIaiBqIBV1BQwzdevVxAmFgx2RFo47XWfo-35_IeIGRZU3CXd591R1Jo1fQ8NLxTaF3XKYuZ7DQLoQeCqEnoxv7PwFeILO5rb8EKvvZnUAYbPcLP-64O/s1600/DSC04012_edited-1.JPG" height="180" width="320" /></a></div>
I started with the primary colors that I use when I paint, magenta, primary yellow and cyan blue. Then mixed and painted the primary, secondary and tertiary colors onto the tags. You can see more of the color wheel information in my book.<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgPvsHXCLxacZcQjZZShM86RNYMmsjnIvyoEswvRTfNV1p1d7vJTki5NCuNXHGMcd-l4BTn7rGYeiV-ckORErd0DOuJmTiQzR4enRM0nSt2V2uDUkTaIglb73Lmfw5zqJ0KHjzXFWX5q8_U/s1600/DSC04018_edited-1.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgPvsHXCLxacZcQjZZShM86RNYMmsjnIvyoEswvRTfNV1p1d7vJTki5NCuNXHGMcd-l4BTn7rGYeiV-ckORErd0DOuJmTiQzR4enRM0nSt2V2uDUkTaIglb73Lmfw5zqJ0KHjzXFWX5q8_U/s1600/DSC04018_edited-1.JPG" height="180" width="320" /></a></div>
I then painted tints of each color on a sheet of sticky dots. I then applied the dots to each of the colors.<br />

To create the wheel all you have to do is attach all the tags together with a paper brad. Make sure to arrange the tags in the correct order of the color wheel.</div>

Don't throw away the paper plate palette after you are done with your wheel. I blended the colors and then wiped some of the color off with a baby wipe. I will use this plate for collage.Anonymoushttp://www.blogger.com/profile/04896029658792301736noreply@blogger.com2tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-558133120525980665.post-26380925601847792932014-11-09T14:21:00.002-08:002014-11-09T14:21:51.918-08:00 Paint Brush Cover<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">

Don't throw away those old crusty paint brushes. I painted and stamped this old paint brush and attached it to one of my journals. The journal is a project I do quite often, I take apart old hard bound books and recover them with my painted canvas. I added the pages with a pamphlet stitch and colored and waxed thread. You can find this project in my book. Very simple and easy to do. </div>

I taught a painted paper class of techniques from my book and I gave all my students a customized paint brush. I have always collected red paint brushes, then I decided to create my own cool red brushes... I purchased a case of chip paint brushes, wrapped painters tape around the metal and spray painted them red. Then I use rubber stamps to add a word or a quote and tie a piece of twine to the bottom. I use these inexpensive paint brushes when I make my painted paper and canvas, I like the texture it creates on the surface of the substrate. <br />

This a small journal I made using the Coptic stitch. I have been trying to figure this out from looking at book instructions. But finally realized I needed to see someone do it. I found a great tutorial on YouTube, the site was from Sealemon. I used a page from an old science book for the front and back cover.Anonymoushttp://www.blogger.com/profile/04896029658792301736noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-558133120525980665.post-44293517546847892032014-02-26T14:27:00.000-08:002014-02-26T14:27:51.840-08:00More Rocks<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">

<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
I went crazy painting last week-end and painted 12 canvases in about a day and a half. They are about 2 by 3 feet each and painted on regular painting canvas. I used to make the canvases much larger in size but I am finding that the smaller size allows me to complete them much quicker and I have more fun trying new techniques and combinations of layers.</div>

A close up, I don't usually use this color palette, but I wanted to create some pieces that are a bit more neutral in tone. The gray and black circle design is a rubber drink coaster I got from target, it makes a great stamp.</div>

I thought I would share my 5 year old Grandson's favorite art obsession, fold-overs! Remember these? Fold and piece of paper in half, drop some paint on it, fold it together again and then open it back up. You never know what you are going to get. To date, Phoenix has made about forty of these at my house. Yesterday he made a couple of really large one's with the addition of spray ink. I think the large piece's will look great framed.<br />

This time please leave a comment about a technique that involves an art material that is sticky, like tape, glues, contact paper etc. When I get 25 comments I will draw a name and give a another book away.<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhZyz0UuDTPJsRyJz-hpoXefJT6AhNeWFnIIa3x6CRgQ_hXYeeeR8ZEiqCLc_FwSArFrVB3wXpQdV-SeXDrc8uhxwWT9kMKA33s7hRo0XjCZNo68fx_Rr1qk8VliI2JpLj89Hn9gLQfDafe/s1600/DSC03241.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="180" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhZyz0UuDTPJsRyJz-hpoXefJT6AhNeWFnIIa3x6CRgQ_hXYeeeR8ZEiqCLc_FwSArFrVB3wXpQdV-SeXDrc8uhxwWT9kMKA33s7hRo0XjCZNo68fx_Rr1qk8VliI2JpLj89Hn9gLQfDafe/s320/DSC03241.JPG" width="320" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
One of my quick sticky techniques is to purchase hole reinforcements from the dollar store. Then paint the sheets with acrylic paints, I then added a little stenciling and some stitched lines with a tracing wheel.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhKFVN85oMQYf3FU939ZPRorD0GRdVL454jhKfI_bwLiE0YrxOok_ajK3aJTsx4x_I2nODcsmr_JPozPmO1FwEKyaDUsiexWxkelmED7bGjWEnBPFxG_VGHg9AWGudYoRhcpZQsOh1Gl4zh/s1600/DSC03242.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="320" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhKFVN85oMQYf3FU939ZPRorD0GRdVL454jhKfI_bwLiE0YrxOok_ajK3aJTsx4x_I2nODcsmr_JPozPmO1FwEKyaDUsiexWxkelmED7bGjWEnBPFxG_VGHg9AWGudYoRhcpZQsOh1Gl4zh/s320/DSC03242.JPG" width="180" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
You can then add the circles to any collage project or journal page.</div>

Thank you all, for sending a comment about your favorite mixed media technique and a chance to win my book. I really enjoyed reading all of the comments and I am going to try some of the ideas out. I put all your names on a piece of paper and drew out the name, Diane. But not to worry if you didn't win this time, I had so much giving this book away, I am going to do it again sometime this week. Look for my next comment question and another chance to win my book.<br />Anonymoushttp://www.blogger.com/profile/04896029658792301736noreply@blogger.com3tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-558133120525980665.post-21012800315314066272013-03-21T19:13:00.002-07:002013-03-21T19:13:50.497-07:00The Book Giveaway has begun.....<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">

Please leave a comment about your favorite mixed media technique, when I get 20 comments, I will draw names to see who the lucky winner is! 6 folks have already commented, see the previous post. Some really good ideas, thanks for sharing everyone.<br />

One of my favorite techniques is to begin most things with a scribble, this is a scribble begun by a couple of my Grand kids. I never met a scribbled line I didn't like, it is the visual representation of physical energy. This paper will now receive several different layers of mixed media techniques.Anonymoushttp://www.blogger.com/profile/04896029658792301736noreply@blogger.com30tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-558133120525980665.post-9618590865747839532013-03-19T18:27:00.000-07:002013-03-19T18:27:34.450-07:00Book Giveaway!<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">

I was thinking to ask folks to leave a comment on their favorite mixed media technique and then when I get about 20 comments, have a drawing and give a book away. But I am open to suggestions................<br />

I used to do a lot of mail with folks, I think it is time to revive this. These are two new pieces I made to mail to a couple of friends. I used on old "Little Golden Children's Book" that I took apart as the base for the two postcards. I then started building up the layers with with lots of paper, photos and tape. Then I added some more color with crayons, paint and stencils. This one has a yellow paint clip, don't you love those things.</div>

The legs are a picture I took of my Grand-daughters legs when she has some cool tights on, I have been using those for a few years. The little girl is from an old clothes pattern from the 50's. The black and white street scene is a photo I took from my friend Diane's car, as we were driving through Seattle, then I changed it to black and white with my computer. <br />

These are the backs of the post-cards, hopefully they will make it through the mail. I stuck a bunch of cool stamps on and we will see what happens. I also like to try and mail stuff to myself, it's fun. I have a nice book I have made from all my mailed postcards.Anonymoushttp://www.blogger.com/profile/04896029658792301736noreply@blogger.com3
