Sew Somerset Article "Fear No Color"

The June issue of Sew Somerset has my artwork with a "how to article" I wrote. This a fabric journal with tons of paint and collage and stitching. The inside is a collection of colors, to which I will probably continue to add to. I hardly ever feel like a journal is complete, I can always add one more thing! This journal is really big, like 12 by 14, the big size is nice to play in, but I did limit the pages, otherwise I would never get close to that almost done stage.
The front cover, I love to paint color wheels. I started with heavy weight canvas and then just build up the layers of color with paint, collage and sewing.
Back cover, my Granddaughter's feet.I love the red page, I think a whole book of red would not be too much.

  6. Another great article. I truly enjoy seeing your work. Unfortunately I am not as creative, it has been said my sister got all the creativity in the family...but when I see your articles it does inspire me and I have made some small creations. Thank you for sharing, you must be a great sister.

  7. Roxie!!!!! You are such an inspiration to me! I adore your love of all things colorful...I LoVe color as well. I want to try to make my own "Fear No Color" journal because after seeing yours, I fell in LoVe. I really love the painted pocket journals that you did for ArtFest too, as well as the student kits. It's the color that draws me in, as well as my love for creative handmade journals.

I'm still in a learning phase only having been creating for a little over a year. So, anytime something appeals to me, I like to study the technique & try to put my own spin on it or figure out a way to create it differently so that it becomes my own. So, if you have any of your painted pocket journals lying around just begging to be sent out into the world to be "loved" by another artist (namely from Mississippi like me)lol, just let me know. I would gladly take it off of your hands so that it doesn't take up anymore space in your studio...lol! No really, I would love to see one of your journals in person, but I don't know when or how I could pull that off.

Thanks for the colorful inspiration! Keep creating boldly!! Steph XoXo : )

  8. I just LOVED your article. I keep going back to it over and over again. I find it very hard to create with lots of colors although I adore artwork and artists that incorporate it. I wish I could break out of my box, although I find that my box has well defined walls that like a certain color palette, LOL. Gorgeous artwork! And Congrats!
