Plexi-glass Portriats

These are portraits that I painted and collaged on sheets of clear plexi-glass. I used to paint on clear plastic all the time in my kid art classes. Draw on one side with a black sharpies and then flip it over and paint the back side. For these I used poster paint pens, acrylic paints, metallic paints and collaged various paper stuff. In person they have a very cool dimensional effect and light reflects off different areas, hard to tell in photographs. You have to work the piece from front to back, which is totally the opposite of how I normally work, quite a good stretch it was!
I will be teaching this class at the next Artfest 2012.

  1. That looks like fun, and a good follow-up to the portrait class. I'm still painting fabric based on what I learned from you at Journalfest. And I have a question - for the simple color theory exercise we did, what were the 3 Dick Blick colors? (I tried to use my google account to leave this comment, but had technical difficulties.) 3. Totally cool! I wonder if this same technique would work on pieces of clear acrylic?
